The project is budgeted at R600,000, covering pre-production planning, script development, filming expenses, post-production editing, sound design, collaboration fees, and any additional costs associated with ensuring the quality and cultural accuracy of the final documentary.

The goal of this project, initiated by Flashing Lites Studios (FLS), was to adapt Shudu’s childhood story, as shared in her children’s book “Shudu Finds Her Magic,” into an engaging and culturally rich cartoon animation series for children. The primary focus was not only to bring the pages to life but also to contribute uniquely to children’s entertainment and education, emphasizing the cultural nuances of the Venda culture.

Target Audience

The target audience for “Shudu’s Gleams of Sunshine” is children between the ages of 4 to 12. The intention is to provide a delightful and educational experience tailored to the developmental needs and interests of this age group.

To achieve the project’s objectives, FLS adopted a comprehensive approach that involved extensive research and collaboration with Ms Shudufadzo Musida, the author of “Shudu Finds Her Magic.” The team delved deep into not only animation techniques but also the cultural intricacies of the Venda people. This thorough understanding allowed FLS to infuse freshness and creativity into the cartoon animation series, positioning the studio as a valuable partner in transforming literary works into captivating visual experiences.
